The Walnut Fire Department will be hosting a benefit for Mike Gettler on Saturday, October 28th.
Mike has been a resident of Walnut since 2001, his 3 children, Garrison, Grayson and Gatlin all attend AHSTW. Mike is a Marine vet and has served our community as a firefighter and EMT since 2002. Mike was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in December of 2015.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that interferes with your brain's ability to operated your body. It can be disabling. Evidence suggests that the disease happens when your immune system attacks a substance called myelin.

Myelin acts as a type of insulation on your nerve cells. This process can lead to damage in and around the nerves in your brain and spinal cord, as well as nerves involved in your vision.

PPMS is identified by steadily worsening neurologic functions in the beginning without distinct relapses (attacks or exacerbations) or remission. The rate of progression may vary with occasional plateaus and temporary minor improvements, but declining neurologic progression is continuous.
