The 2013 annual Fireman's Funfest was held on August 17th. The date for the 2014 event has not yet been scheduled.
In lieu of an official tournament, the 2013 Walnut Funfest Committee invited the community to come and play slow-pitch on Saturday from Noon-4 p.m. There was no cost to play and no need to register or find a team. You simply had to show up with your glove and enjoy a few friendly innings!
The Committee also hosted kid's games and bounce houses. Various community organizations also sponsored the games, including kids fireman water fights, a local favorite. A free ice cream social, funded by the Promise Partners of Council Bluffs, took place from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Ice Cream was free to all individuals, a way to beat the heat.
As always, Fireman's and Veteran's Parks in Walnut will offer a number of enjoyable activities for the 2014 event. Between Alec's Playground, the Splash Pad, and the sand volleyball court, there's something for every member of the family.
The annual parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, beginning at the park and heading south down Antique City Drive. The parade will feature Walnut's fire fighting vehicles and our beloved members of Walnut Volunteer Fire & Rescue. The parade will immediately be followed by the Fireman's Dinner, which will be served at the American Legion Hall. Good food, good fun, and good neighbors; you don't want to miss it! We hope to see you in Walnut during the 2014 Fireman's Funfest.
Bring your kids, your grandkids, your friends, and your pets -- all are welcome -- let's celebrate!!
