The 2013 annual Fireman's Funfest has been scheduled for August 17th.
Changes have been made: Due to lack of participation, the old vs. new alumni softball game which was to be held on Friday evening, has been canceled. The slow-pitch softball tournament, which was supposed to last Saturday and Sunday, has also been canceled. However, in lieu of an official tournament, the Walnut FunFest Committee would like to invite the community to come and play slow-pitch on Saturday from Noon-4 p.m. There will be no cost to play and no need to register or find a team. Simply show up with your glove and enjoy a few friendly innings!
The Committee is still planning kid's games and bounce houses. Various community organizations will host the games, including kids fireman water fights, a local favorite. A free ice cream social, funded by the Promise Partners of Council Bluffs, will take place from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Ice Cream is free to all individuals, a way to beat the heat.
As always, Fireman's and Veteran's Parks in Walnut offer a number of enjoyable activities. Between Alec's Playground, the Splash Pad, and the sand volleyball court, there's something for every member of the family.
The annual parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, beginning at the park and heading south down Antique City Drive. The parade will feature Walnut's fire fighting vehicles and our beloved members of Walnut Volunteer Fire & Rescue. The parade will immediately be followed by the Fireman's Dinner, which will be served at the American Legion Hall. Good food, good fun, and good neightbors; you don't want to miss it! We hope to see you in Walnut this weekend.
Bring your kids, your grandkids, your friends, and your pets -- all are welcome -- let's celebrate!!
